WRHSCF Donors to Send Students to NYC to Attend ‘The Outsiders’ Broadway Musical
After “The Outsiders” Broadway cast spoke to members of the Will Rogers College MS/HS drama classes, the actors worked with principal Cindy Largent-Williams to create a special event for the students.
The musical is based on “The Outsiders” book by S.E. Hinton, a 1966 graduate of Will Rogers High School. It was published when she was a student there.
Based on essays submitted for review, six girls and two boys were chosen to attend the event. All the students needed was the funding to travel to and stay in New York City’s Theatre District.
Largent-Williams brought the idea to The Will Rogers HS Community Foundation to provide a grant the trip. The Ron and Carole Woods Foundation donated $5,000. Another generous donation was given by the son of Kathy Williams Caswell, Class of 1962, in her honor. Dick Risk, former chair of the foundation, paid for the students’ show tickets.
So far, the foundation and other contributors have raised $11,500. just $1,000 short of their goal. The trip is planned for May 3-5.
